As of November 18, NI now offers both subscription and perpetual licenses for LabVIEW and the LabVIEW+ Suite. Perpetual licenses for additional test software will be available in February 2025.

‍Wind turbine installation elevates sustainable energy opportunities at Western

‍The winds of change are powering new opportunities for engineering students at Western Michigan University with the re-installation of a wind turbine near the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences building in the Parkview Campus.

 

Funded by a grant from REpowering Schools, Western collaborated with Kalamazoo Valley Community College to rehabilitate the equipment, which hadn't been used in several years. The upgrade will help open a new chapter in sustainability education at the University when paired with the solar arrays on campus.

‍Ada Lovelace’s Endnotes Foretold the Future of Computation

‍Many fields of science have a foundational document: Isaac Newton’s Principia for the physics of classical mechanics, for example, or Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species for evolutionary biology. But only computer science can claim its foundation hides in endnotes.

Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace, better known as Ada Lovelace, was commissioned in 1842 to translate a paper about the world’s first general-purpose computer. She appended her own annotations, which ran three times longer than the original article and completely eclipsed it in terms of technical meat and philosophical insights. The impressive foresight they reflected established her as the first person to envision the universal capabilities of computers that we take for granted today.
