Real-Time Spectrum Monitoring of Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor using I-MON USB and LabVIEW

 MSU Ocean Turbulence Main

Overview

Real-Time Spectrum Monitoring of Fiber Bragg Grating Sensor using I-MON USB and LabVIEW.  A university needed a custom LabVIEW application that could acquire data from a Ibsen Photonics I-Mon USB Interrogation Monitor.  The university had some existing LabVIEW software, however it was hard to understand, difficult to maintain, and didn't save data to file fast enough.  The university needed the software re-written so they could easily incorporate some of the algorithms they were developing.  They also needed the software to save data quickly and have a way to mange the large amount of data the software would generate.  The data needed to be stored an a file that could be read and analyzed by MATLAB.

Water Discharge Monitor using LabVIEW and CompactDAQ

 MSU Solar Main FP

Overview

Water Discharge Monitor using LabVIEW and CompactDAQ.  A university was doing research on comparing 2 solar systems to heat water for use in dairy farms.  Flow and temperature of both systems needed to be monitored.  The system needed to control a solenoid valve based on flow measurement that controlled water discharge.  The solar systems were in different locations and needed to be monitored remotely.  Data needed to be saved to be analyzed at a later time.

Museum Exhibit using PCI DAQ and LabVIEW

I-5

Overview

Impression 5 hands on science center in Lansing, MI had an exhibit that needed an upgrade. The exhibit consisted of firing a tennis ball with compressed air, with the goal of shooting the ball into a bucket a fixed distance away. The patron could select the angle at which the tennis ball was fired, and the pressure of an air tank upon firing by using a hand pump. A PC monitored the angle of the tennis ball and the air pressure of a tank, and displayed these measurements on a computer screen along with the flight trajectory for the angle and pressure. Impression 5 wanted to upgrade the computer graphics and use off the shelf hardware to make maintenance easier.
