What is Motion Control
Motion control is the the systems or sub-systems involved in moving parts of machines in a controlled manner. Motion systems typically consist of a PC, application software, a motion controller, drives, motors, and mechanical components such as gearboxes and stages. The motion profile can be set up in the drive or sometimes the drive is integrated into the motor. The PC can communicate to the drive via a variety of protocols i.e. EtherCAT, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, Serial, CAN, CAN Open, and TCP/IP.
