Serial Port Data Logger

Overview

An electronics manufacturer had a product that they were developing, which when prompted, sent continuous error data via the serial port. They were having problems reading the data because the data being sent was too numerous and too fast for a person to decipher.

Solution

We designed a LabVIEW program that read the data from the serial port and charted it on the screen in real time. The program had 8 charts from which the user could select what data was to be displayed on the screen. The program also had an option that logged the data to an Excel spreadsheet for later analysis.

Result

This program enabled the engineers to find problems with this product that could never have been seen before the software.
