Weight Monitor for Mettler-Toledo Lynx Terminal

Overview

Weight Monitor for Mettler-Toledo Lynx Terminal.  A material refining company needed a program to monitor the weight of the material being processed from their equipment.  The company needed the software to communicate with their existing Mettler-Toledo Lynx scale, and save the data in excel for analysis.

Solution

We developed a LabVIEW program that communicated with an existing Mettler Toledo Lynx scale via RS-485.  RS-485 is an industrial specification that defines the electrical interface and physical layer for point-to-point communication of electrical devices. The RS-485 standard allows for long cabling distances in electrically noisy environments and can support multiple devices on the same bus.

The software graphed mass flow of the material in real time.  The software also contained a graph that calculated a moving average of the mass flow of the material.   We saved the collected data in an excel file for later analysis.

Results

Weight Monitor for Mettler-Toledo Lynx Terminal allowed the customer to connect a PC to the terminal via RS485.  The software we developed plotted the data on a chart for real time analysis.  The saved data was used for advanced process analysis and quality control.  Using the software the customer greatly increased the quality control of their process because they could monitor what was going on in real time and could analyze the saved data from the software.
